Cotswold Canals Connected joined forces with Tweedy the Gifford’s Circus clown, in a bid to raise much needed funds for Maggie’s cancer support charity.
Tweedy has been taking part in Maggie’s ‘Run 50 miles Facebook Challenge’ throughout January to raise money to support people with cancer and their families. His run is dedicated to Gifford’s Circus founder Nell Gifford, who died of breast cancer in 2019.

On Saturday Tweedy began his run at Stroud Farmers’ Market, working his way through to Stroud train station where he took a train to Stonehouse. He then continued to the canal via the gardens of Stonehouse Court Hotel and made his way onto a Katakanu provided by Boatmobility which he took to Ryeford before running back to Stroud.
“When we heard about Tweedy’s undertaking, we thought it was a great opportunity to show our support by providing him with a fun, local route. It was great to show what we have to offer with Boatmobility and our canal-side towpaths, which are ideal for running. We hope this inspires people to get active, experience our wonderful canals and support local charities,” said Chris Mitford-Slade, Canal Project Director, Cotswold Canals Connected.
“I am really proud to be involved in this initiative for Maggie’s and would like to use this opportunity to thank everyone who has donated,” said Tweedy. “Maggie’s offer some of the best possible support to those with cancer and it is important to me that I raise awareness of the great work they do. It was also great to work with Cotswold Canals Connected and complete the last stretch of my challenge on the scenic canal towpath.”
Tweedy has raised more than £1,300 so far, and you can help make the total higher by donating. He is performing his Lost Property show at The Sub Rooms in February.
